New Wheelies - James

I joined the New Wheelies in 2010 after watching Wheelchair Dancing on T.V. I have met new friends & we meet once a week to practice the dances. We have a competition in November and we do demonstrations to get more practice in.

New Wheelies - Pauline

Hi, my name is Pauline Marshall, I’m 68 years old. My hobbies are pc, talking to friends and meeting new ones. My main hobby is wheelchair dancing that I go to every Monday night I have won 22 medals for my dancing over the years which I am very proud of and hope to win many more over the next few years.

New Wheelies - Alice

I joined a wheelchair dance team called Patchwork in 1985. I was with them for sixteen years. We entered in competitions up and down the country winning many medals and trophies.

One highlight being in 1999 when the team was invited to dance for and afterwards being presented to Princess Diana, which was a great honour.

Now I’ m with another team The New Wheelies. We practice every Monday evening. I enjoy the company and find it very stimulating. We still enter in competition and are always looking for new members so if you have a manual or electric wheelchair why not come along and join us and enjoy it, like I have all these years age no limit.

New Wheelies - Sharon

I started wheelchair dancing in 2002 with Meghan McEwan; her dance group was The Shining Stars. One of the dances we did was The Phantom of the Opera for the novelty dance. I enjoyed this so much. When Meghan stopped teaching I was looking for another group but I had nothing for 2 years. Then I heard there was another group starting. So I went along to see if I would like it and started dancing again. This is where my Partner and I started dancing together this is called Phab dancing. It is someone in a wheelchair and an able bodied person dance. We have done many different dances over the years like the Cha Cha, Pasa Dobla and the Samba. About 2 years ago I joined Walter’s dance group The New Wheelies and I have done many good dances. I hope to be with this group for many years to come. Sharon Collow

New Wheelies - Caroline

I found out about a The New Wheelies when I went to a day centre Dundas for people with physical disabilities and my friends from there told me about it so I went along and have been going for 5 years and loving it. I have won gold championship twice for the British Wheelchair Dancing Championships for free style disco. I have made a lot of friends their and I look forward to going every week to see my friends and learn new dances and I hope that the group will continue to run for years to come.
